How to Use the 17 Second Method: Manifest Like Abraham Hicks

If you could manifest your desires in just 17 seconds would you try it?

The 17 second technique uses the law of attraction to set your manifestation in motion.

Sounds kind of unbelievable at first, but there's a method to this madness. Let's get into how it works.

What is the 17 Second Technique?

The 17 second manifestation technique was created by Abraham Hicks, an author and international speaker who is stated to be connected to the universal consciousness. Her main teachings centre around vibration and the law of attraction. It is the belief that if you hold a thought for 17 seconds that the law of attraction begins to kick in.

If you hold that thought for 68 seconds then it sets the manifestation of your thought into motion.

People often underestimate how challenging it is to focus on a singular thought for 68 seconds. Our minds tend to wonder and become muddled with subconscious thought. One second you're focused, the next you're thinking about pizza.

So Hicks separates the 17 second technique into 4 intervals. In order to access the law of attraction through this method you need to have unbreakable focus for the entirety of the 68 seconds.

The 17 Second Technique & The Law of Attraction

The law of attraction is one of the 12 Universal Laws. These laws are said to be the most unchangeable and intrinsic laws of the universe. Basically, they apply to every single one of us, without exception.

The law of attraction simply states that like attracts like. It is the basic principle that you attract whatever you mentally focus on. This works both for positive and negative experiences. For example, if you're someone who is always angry and spiteful, then you will attract more experiences that create anger and spite.

Put simply, it's the belief that your thoughts create your reality.

Why isn't it Working for Me?

You may have been practicing positive thinking for a while now, but don't seem to be manifesting your desires. Well, thought alone isn't enough. You need to match the vibrational frequency of your desires.

You can't just simply think “I am happy, I am happy over and over again and expect yourself to be happy. Your subconscious mind simply won't believe you. You have to raise your vibrations to match the feeling of happiness.

This can be difficult if you have negative subconscious programming or negative assumptions of the world.

Subconscious Programming & Low Vibrations

The subconscious mind is on a constant loop, repeating around 90% of the same thoughts today as it did yesterday. A huge part of this subconscious programming was established between the formative ages of 0-7 when both hemispheres of your brain are firing and absorbing information like a sponge.

The conditioning you receive from your families, schooling and society between these ages goes toward the development of your personal identity. This subconscious conditioning will follow you into adulthood.

If you haven't worked through issues relating to this programming then your inner narrative will most likely be; negative, shy, anxious or full of self-doubt. These belief systems work at a low vibrational frequency and will therefore attract low vibrational outcomes. You can't just think “I am happy for 17 seconds when in reality you don't feel great.

How to Raise Your Vibrations

If you feel as though you're stuck in a negative cycle of subconscious thought there are many techniques that can help. Unblocking your 7 chakras through modalities like meditation, breathwork and listening to solfeggio frequencies are perhaps some of the most powerful.

These methods will help to unearth any blockages or trauma stored in the subconscious that are negatively clouding your manifestations.

The law of attraction is constantly being signalled, whether in a positive or negative way. If you're trying to use this technique but your subconsciously thinking “I'm not good at this then you're sending out signals that it won't work for you. It's not that you're not good at manifesting, it's just that you haven't practiced. Everyone has the ability to focus the mind and manifest, you just need a bit of clarity and belief to get you going.

6 Steps to Manifest with the 17 Second Technique

Step 1 Find a Quiet Time to Focus

Hicks advises practicing this manifestation technique first thing in the morning. When you first wake up in the morning the brain hasn't had time to start hounding you with subconscious chatter.

It's a small window of time that you're not thinking about all of the challenges you're about to face in your day. This is a great time to manifest and raise your vibrations.

If you can get into an attitude of appreciation first thing in the morning you are setting yourself up to manifest without any subconscious energy causing blockages. If you'd like to practice this at another time of the day, pick a time where you can be alone, in a quiet space, take 3 deep grounding breaths to calm the body and mind and close your eyes.

Step 2 Decide What You Want

Decide what it is that you'd like to manifest. It's important here to be specific and as detailed as possible. Clarity on what it is that you desire is very important for your visualisation. Ensure that you're choosing one desire that you can focus all of your energy on.

This will help you to create a clear picture in your mind, establish new guidelines for the subconscious mind and help you to match the vibrational energy of your desire.

Step 3 Visualise, Feel and Believe Your Desire

Visualising and feeling your desire as if you already have it is a crucial step. Remember, you're raising your vibrational energy to signal that you already have your desire, because like attracts like.

If you want happiness, you need to feel happiness radiating in your body and mind. Focusing on a specific visualisation of your desires will elicit positive feelings throughout the body. If you let doubt seep in like “this will never work then you are matching the vibrational energy of doubt. Visualise what it is you want in detail and believe that you already have it.

Step 4 Focus on your Visualisation for 17 Seconds

Close your eyes and focus on the visualisation of your desire. Ask yourself;

  1. What does it feel like to have my desire?
  2. What does it look like?
  3. How having it changed you?
  4. Who have you become?
  5. What does your life look like now?

Try to immerse yourself in the visualisation. Really feel as if it is already true and that you have everything you want. Once you've gotten into this high vibrational emotional state you're ready to focus on that feeling for 17 seconds. Focus on all of the positive emotions that you can and try not to be distracted by other thoughts.

If other subconscious thoughts seep in you've broken your focus and should start again. You have 17 seconds to sustain this thought and shift your vibrations.

Step 5 Focus on your Visualisation for 68 Seconds

Now that you've mastered focusing on your desire for 17 seconds it's time to do it in 3 more cycles. You can set a timer or gong on your phone or simply sit in this focused state for as long as you can, so long as you hit the 68 second mark.

By focusing on your manifestation for 68 seconds you are heightening your vibration to a point that it is matching your desire. Sustain that feeling for as long as you can, after a few weeks of practice you will get better and better at maintaining this high frequency.

Step 6 Let Go

Once you have sat in this visualisation and emotion for 68 seconds or more, let go.

Simply don't think about the manifestation anymore. If you constantly ask why it hasn't happened yet then you're signalling to the brain that you are in lack.

That feeling of lack will attract more lack. Be patient, open and receptive to whatever may come your way.

Final Thoughts

The 17 second technique can be quite a powerful manifestation tool. Though it seems easy, actually focusing on your visualisation for 68 seconds without subconscious interruption is more challenging than you might think.

What it requires is a little determination and practice. You need to focus until you can maintain the high emotional frequency of your desire through visualisation, feeling and  belief.

Once you've done this, let go, be patient and allow for what comes. I guess if you really want to know if it works the only thing left to do is give it a try. If you do we'd love to hear about your experience.
